Our review
Weak rims, QR-only hubs and fairly high weight don’t impress us much

SRAM X9 hubs are a new addition to the range. This wheelset teams them with Alex’s mid-width rims to make a cheap, but rather fragile result.

The Alex TD17 rims are a regular sight on complete bikes, but pin-jointed (rather than welded) construction and lower grade materials make them prone to buckling and bending if ridden hard.

Thirty-two double-butted spokes either end work hard to make them feel okay on the trail, but occasionally slow, clunky freehub pick-up and relatively high weight dulls their responsiveness.

We’ve had no issues so far, but surface grease on the freehub bearing face contaminates quickly, even in dry conditions. They only come in quick-release axle compatible versions so far too.
