Our review
Light, stiff and strong, but expensive and 12mm through-axle only on the rear

We’re seeing a lot more Sun/Ringle wheel kit on complete bikes these days, but this lightweight set is expensive for an aftermarket option.

The MTX rims have proved tough through a year of being our main rear Maxle wheelset. The 29mm width will support up to 2.4in tyres and fatten out 2.2inchers nicely too.

The tension of the eyeleted spokes has stayed even and tight, keeping the wheels impressively accurate. Double-butted spokes and an alloy freehub keep weight low enough for trail use, while the needle bearing freehub engages quickly.

We’ve had variable lifespan results though, they’re 12mm through-axle only on the rear and the set is £130 more than buying the rims and hubs alone.
