Our review

Packed with safety features but let down by its weight, ventilation and some of the finer details
Pros: Plenty of safety features; comfy if it fits
Cons: Hot and heavy; quite pricey; cradle needs to be better supported

With its oval internal shape, the MonTrailer didn’t suit all our testers, but if it does fit your head, the thick anti-bacterial padding is comfortable.

The dial at the back gives fine control of the circumference of the cradle but you can’t adjust its height. There’s also no vertical support for the fit system, so it gets pushed up your head when you put the helmet on.

Unusually, the straps run from loops attached to the outer shell. They connect with a magnetic closure — something i’m not sold on, because they can get sticky and gritty in use, and are bulkier than a regular buckle.

The outer shell is fully in-moulded, so there’s no exposed EPS foam, and drops down relatively low, boosting coverage. Structural elements are incorporated into the liner for extra strength and a MIPS layer adds protection against rotational impacts.

The large peak has four indented positions and there’s plenty of room under it for goggles, plus a guide round the back for the strap.

While comfy, this lid is very hot and heavy. My large sample weighed 503g — over 100g heavier than many competitors. There are 12 vents but it could do with more, especially over the crown of your head.
