Bolle’s Trackdown MIPS trail lid has plenty of coverage, dropping low at the back and around the ears. The in-moulded shell wraps around the rim of the helmet too, so there’s little EPS liner left exposed to knocks and dings.
You can adjust the retention system vertically and there’s plenty of circumference adjustment courtesy of the large indexed dial mounted to the comfortable cradle at the back.
A MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) layer boosts crash protection and Bollé says the EPS is progressive in its compression, which should help it deal with really big hits.
While the vents aren’t huge, there’s a fair bit of internal channelling, so while it’s not the coolest helmet I’ve worn, it’s not the worst for heating up either.
An optional winter pack blocks the two main top vents against chilly wind and rain. Other neat features include a large, three-point adjustable peak, sunglasses port and straps that connect directly to the shell by the ears.
The shape won’t suit everyone, because it narrows towards the front of the forehead. At 381g for a medium helmet, it isn’t light either, but it stays in place well.
