Our review
A lightweight, well-vented helmet, but I'm looking for MIPS or other extra protective features at this price

Pros:

Great fit and ventilation make it really comfortable

Cons:

It’d be good to have MIPS or similar

Designed to combine lightweight comfort with ‘excellent value’ – although far from budget-priced – the Rudy Project Crossway unisex helmet weighs just 277g.

Inmould construction, where the rigid polycarbonate outer shell is cast at the same time as the EPS (expanded polystyrene) inner lining is formed, increases protection without adding weight, and gives it a smooth, well-made feel with no hard edges.

The RSR 10 S retention system allows for vertical as well as horizontal adjustment for fit. Even before any tweaks, the Crossway sat well and was perfectly balanced, giving a great sense of security.

Customising the height of the retention system, using the internal sliding tab, only added to that.

On the bike, this feels like the lid we all want – one you’re barely aware of. The cooling is part of that. With the 23 evenly-spaced vents creating a lot of airflow, on warmer spring days this has been noticeably less sweaty than other helmets in my regular rotation. Come summer, I'll be equally as grateful for the bug-catcher mesh behind the front vents.

The downsides? You can’t adjust the height of the peak, and there’s no MIPS or similar technology for extra brain protection – something I’d normally hope to see on trail/enduro helmets at this price.

However, for a lightweight XC lid, it ticks the comfort box.

The Crossway is available in six brightly coloured models, with reflective stickers to further enhance visibility, and sizes S–M (55–58cm) and L (59–61cm).
