Lazer Coyote MTB helmet review

With a prominent peak and decent coverage, the Coyote helmet from Lazer sits firmly in the trail lid camp.

The EPS foam liner extends to the base of your skull at the back and also drops a touch in front of the ears for added protection. Over that, the outer shell extends round the lower edge of the helmet, keeping the liner protected from accidental drops and knocks.

The straps are fixed by your temple but are free to move from side to side at the rear, and I found them easy to adjust. They sit close to the face, which provides a snug fit. This was replicated by the Coyote’s retention cradle, which is also vertically adjustable.

It isn’t padded, but the construction is comfy and there’s a wide range of adjustment, which pulls in around the circumference of the head.

Goggles work nicely with the Coyote, although wider-framed glasses interfere with the shell near the ears. Sadly, the peak isn’t adjustable. The low-profile clip on the strap is also fiddly.

Ventilation is good, thanks to 21 ports, and while the padding is sparse, it is acceptably comfortable on all-day rides.

At 383g (large) it’s not particularly light, and at this price other lids get adjustable peaks and, occasionally, MIPS protection too.
