It’s not often you hear ‘best ever’ from the mouths of What Mountain Bike testers, but that’s how the fit of 2012’s 22-vent Met Kaos was described by two.
It’s easy to mould to your head – a twist of the dial and the one-piece retention band applies even pressure around the head, while the deep pads are absorbent and removable for washing.
The helmet is fully in-moulded, as are practically all modern helmets, to make a one-piece structure that is strong and durable. The outer skin has an unusual soft-touch finish that still cleans up easily, plus ventilation and weight (250g) are both good – though not ground-breaking.
We do have a tiny issue with the peak, which is overlong, not adjustable and has a slight downward droop at the end. It falls too far into the eyeline, causing us to keep pushing the helmet back. We’ll shave ours for length and trim the stops to allow it to be stuck back a bit. It’s a silly oversight, which detracts from an otherwise awesome helmet.
