Stylish, well appointed lightweight trail helmet at a bargain price

Scott are causing a stir with their 2010 helmet line. Models like the trail-ready Groove II blend top-end cross-country racer lid weight with the sort of excellent deep head coverage and protection that risk-taking trail riders demand.

The internal shape is as easy on the skull as the Groove’s smooth lines are on the eye. The Velcro-backed removable pads are machine washable, to limit lid stink. Big well-positioned vents draw air over the head well to stop you sweating up too hard.

The retention strap is adjusted with a dial that some testers thought could be a bit lower, but it didn’t affect performance. The removable peak looks good and clips on and off easily, but we’d have liked it to offer a little up/down adjustment to cope with different head shapes and terrain styles.

If you consider the remarkably light weight (254g), the immediate comfort and the crazy cheap price, we think this has to be a contender for your next lid.
