Limar's Pro104 Ultralight helmet is one of the lightest road racing helmets on the market. The size L (56-61cm) that we tested tipped the scales at just 201g, and Limar claim the M (54-56cm) weighs just 180g.
Only the recently launched Giro Prolight claims to be lighter at 175g but let's be honest, if you can feel a 5g difference then we may have some mattresses and peas for you to test.
The Pro104 Ultralight sits lightly on your head with 22 vents providing plenty of air cooling. The internal pads and straps are noticeably softer than on your average helmet, and the fit is easily adjustable with a rear mounted ratchet knob. This combines to give a supremely comfortable lid that will also keep you cool. The latter quality is particularly important in summer, as overheating is detrimental to your performance and is one of the main reasons people dislike wearing helmets.
A nifty feature of the Pro104 Ultralight is an insect net that covers the front vents of the helmet. This should prevent wasps and the like from flying into your helmet and stinging you – always a potential hazard with large vents in front. Colour-wise, you have four choices: white, silver, red or blue.
The Pro104 complies with European safety standard CE EN 1078 for bicycle helmets. Limar will offer you a half price replacement if you damage it within the first three years, as well as a two-year warranty against manufacturing defects. That's good value when you consider the helmet retails for £109.99 – cheaper or at least comparable in price to other top-end race helmets.
