Simple backpack sprayer that cleans okay. Not the comfiest, though and needs assembly too

This Ghostbusters-style backpack sprayer carries enough water for a couple of bike washes. It needs cleaner and brush back-up though and takes a bit of assembly. The back-mounted design looks a bit daft but it holds enough water for a good wash and means you don’t have to stop and re-pump every few seconds.

There’s a fair amount of washer and split pin assembly to get it together though, which is a pain. You do get an extra spray and weed killer head if it’s likely to do double duty in the garden. If you keep the pressure up it’s not far off the powered cleaners in terms of dirt shifting ability either, although you’ll have to aim more carefully as there’s less water coming out.

You’ll definitely have to use a cleaning solution to get frame tubes properly clean. The arm produces less pressure with each crank, making it somewhat labour intensive and the thin straps with small pads dig in more. It’s not cheap either, but there’s nothing electrical to break and it comes with a three-year guarantee.
