Most suspension is designed to lube from the inside, using internal splash oil to keep things stiction-free. But the outside of the seals experience a range of harsh conditions and are quick to become dry and sticky. Finish Line’s Max Suspension Spray is designed to remedy this through reducing seal stiction, improving seal condition and hopefully extending time between servicing.
This product works perfectly with any open suspension surface: fork, rear shock, adjustable-seatpost. As Derek Goltz from Finish Line pointed out to us, it can also be used to prevent mud from sticking to a frame.
To use, wipe the stanchions and seals of the worst muck, apply Max suspension, cycle the suspension (or seatpost) a few times and then wipe away the ring of dirt that is brought up. What you’re left with is a smoother feeling, quieter running suspension - and clean stanchions are always a good thing regardless.
Our biggest issues with the Max Suspension Spray is right in the name – it’s a spray. Front fork stanchion tubes sit directly above the disc rotor - and even with the included micro-tube - it’s all too easy to overspray and ruin a well-functioning brake system. Covering the brake is the answer, but it’s still an extra step to be mindful of.
Having felt the difference in stiction after using this product, we’re sold and it’s now part of our post-ride maintenance. But watch those brakes!
