A clever solution for the messy home-mechanic

Lubing a chain isn’t hard. However, dripping lubricant all over your wheels, frame or floor seems a little wasteful. Hank Krause, president of Finish Line, says the question every bike shop employee gets when talking about regular maintenance is, ‘What’s the best way to apply chain lube?'. The No Drip Chain Luber seeks to provide an answer, promising a 50 percent reduction in lube consumption without any mess.

The No Drip is an empty bottle with a clever sponge-like applicator head. Finish Line claims the ‘wicking pad’ is effective for at least 25 applications, and includes two spares to ensure a decent service life. The applicator head folds to close the bottle, and a separate child-safe travel cap is included, just in case.

The no drip chain luber can be closed by just tilting the head. if you're going to throw it in your gear bag, we suggest using the supplied travel cap: - David Rome/Future Publishing

Sold empty and ready to fill with your favourite lube, we tested our early sample with Finish Line Dry, a low-viscosity lube that can end up on the floor if you’re not careful. Lubing a chain is generally only messy when in a rush, and the No Drip afforded us to be quick and lazy. It's simple to use: just tip the bottle upside-down, place it against the top of the chain, gently squeeze and back pedal, and voila...

We found Finish Line's claims for No Drip to be true, with the bottle applying lube evenly to the chain and not past it.When you tip the bottle upside-down, no lube drips out unless you squeeze it.While great with lube, this product could just as easily be used to clean a chain: just fill with a degreaser, apply and wash off. If you’re one to make a mess, the No Drip Luber is a clever approach that further simplifies a regular task. Expect it to hit the shelves in November.
