Our review
The leather experts deliver a chunky but functional multi-tool

It’s not that compact, but Brooks has managed to squeeze an impressive 21 tools into its MT21. It has 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8mm Allen keys, three Torx keys, and a flat-head and two Phillips screwdrivers. Its multifunctional chain tool holds four spoke keys, a Brooks saddle spanner and even a bottle opener. A handy knife rounds up a comprehensive list.

The MT21 is a chunky bit of kit, weighing a noticeable 297g with its leather sheath. It is well built, though. The tools are a decent length and the sturdy build enables you to apply sufficient torque.

Given Brooks’ history of saddle making, it’s no surprise that the case for the MT21 is beautifully made from embossed leather. Over time the sheath has naturally softened too, making accessing the tool a little easier.

With its weight and bulk, you’ll certainly notice the MT21 in your pocket, but the tools are well made, with the heads fitting snugly into bolts. Its 21 tools are also enough for the majority of roadside jobs – with nothing obviously lacking. It’s stylish and it performs very well, but at well over half a pound in weight it’s probably not the ideal choice for your race day jersey pocket!
