The Compact Sport is Gerber’s most popular tool, and what the extra money gets you over the Suspension model is even greater levels of strength and durability. It has, as one tester put it, a cracking set of knives (that happily lock for safety) and it will get as down ‘n’ dirty as its industrial looks would imply.
We suggest that cities would fall before this little baby gives up; Bikeradar international editor John Stevenson has an earlier version that’s the best part of 15 years old and still going strong.
It’s shown here with the additional tools available as an add-on set – they fit onto one of the screwdrivers to extend its use even further.
We awarded the Gerber Suspension a higher score because of its great value and ultra-smooth operation, but if you’re a true woodsman and are hankering after something a little more brutal, this could be the one for you.
