Okay for awkward frames but pads could be better

Today's frame tubes have taken on some peculiar profiles that can make it hard to place the bike in a workstand, and where clamping the seatpost is the only option the working height is often too low. Velomann’s Bike Score is different to most, clamping the bike around the bottom bracket and down tube.

It’s easy to set up, folds neatly and weighs a shade under 4kg. The legs turn to form a study tripod and a resin-moulded boom folds out to the desired angle.

The bike’s bottom bracket and down-tube are strapped securely using a ratcheted plastic strap. The boom has crudely attached rubber pads to help prevent the frame slipping sideways but these pads quickly deteriorated, causing the inner chainring to rub slightly on the workstand.

That said, the working height is perfect and we found it better than a traditional workstand for getting to grips with bottom bracket bearings.
