The Vanish is a tidy helmet with a few fitting quirks

The Vanish is the top-of-the-line mountain bike helmet from Scott Sports, and it’s nearly but not quite a home run for the company. The 226g (our medium was 236g) lid ticks all the boxes in terms of safety, style and construction techniques.

It has all the features you’d expect to get when passing over nearly £100 for a helmet – in-mould construction, dial-up fit, removable peak and lots of venting. It fits a little shorter front to rear than a Giro, feeling more like a Bell, so it's better for rounder (as opposed to oval) shaped heads.

Our only complaint is that Scott have chosen to sew the straps together under the ears rather than provide the usual adjusters. The straps fitted us just right, if closer to our earlobes than we'd normally like, but others may not be so lucky.
