The edgy looks of TSG’s new high end, lightweight (1,089g for our large sample) full-face got us excited, especially at this rather attractive (for a carbon lid) price. There are some impressive features lurking beneath those sleek looks too.
There’s no EPS foam visible around the edges of the shell, and magnetic cheek pads make cleaning easier and combine with the rest of the liner to provide a really comfy fit. There are some disappointments too though.
The finish around the mouthpiece isn’t the best and not everyone will be sold on the carbon-effect paint on the peak. Sizing is also a bit small – we ended up testing a large rather than our usual medium.
On the bike, the venting system does a good job of getting air flowing through to your head and we had no trouble fitting large goggles into the front opening. The liner stayed comfy even when near-saturated with sweat on hotter days, and we like the classic double D-ring closure system.
We didn’t crash hard in the Advance, but when we gave the chin guard a squeeze test, we found a lot of flex in it compared to other similarly priced helmets – and that doesn’t do much for confidence levels.
