Bont Zero+ shoes - just in

Redesigned performance road shoe

The Bont Zero road shoe has been redesigned from the ground up for 2014, and the Zero+ is said to offer improved fit, stiffness, comfort and aero performance. Expected price is £275 (US price to be confirmed) and our size 45 test pair weighs in at 500g.

The original Zero was the shoe of choice for Bradley Wiggins, and he rode it to Tour de France success. It had a slick, fibre-based upper and a fully mouldable, bathtub carbon sole. They had a cutting-edge design bar one thing – the laces, which keep weight down but aren’t exactly a quick put-on/get-off option.

Instead of laces, the new Zero+ has a fibre-wire tensioner dialled in with a single atop dial. The original monocoque chassis has been redesigned, and Bont say it now offers an improved fit, better stiffness and increased power transfer. A new liner and performance sculpted insole should improve comfort.

Bont have switched to a Durolite material for the new upper. It’s dimpled, for a claimed improvement in aero performance – however, as with the original Zero we’d imagine that’s more down to the cover closure.
