Fabian Cancellara, winner of this year’s Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Flanders, visited the Gaerne factory near Treviso, Italy, to see a pair of handmade, customised Carbon G.Chrono shoes being built for him.

The star, sponsored by the Italian shoe-makers, spent a day with factory workers, who created an extra special pair of G.Chronos for the Swiss Classics specialist. The footwear was customised with the Swiss flag and embossed with his initials – in gold.

After the tour, Cancellara – well known for a fastidious attention to kit development and selection – praised the employees.

“When you see the finished product you cannot imagine how much work is behind it,” he said. “It was nice to see all the people who produce my shoes; you can see that they are actually handmade by people who give the maximum every day, which is also what a cyclist is looking for. We're going in two equal roads and in the end we are on the same road… The way to win.”
