While most of the bikes that roll through our hands are the latest and greatest carbon bikes, on occasion something a bit more unique lands in the workstand, and this is certainly one of those times. The Retrotec Funduro is Curt Inglis-built frame with custom steel and a decidedly American-centered build kit.

The Funduro frame
The Retrotec brand began in 1992 when Bob Seals wanted the looks of a stylish cruiser frame loaded with modern capability and performance.
In 1993, Curt Inglis came on board as a welder and eventually took over the brand with Seals' approval.
While a range of 'classic' frames are on offer, the Funduro takes the curvy cruiser notion and allows a longer travel fork (120–140mm), a snug rear center, and plenty of room for 3.0in plus size tires — it's claimed to be built to take on the rough stuff at speed.
Retrotec frames can be had with a single, double or even triple top tube.

The build kit
Blue anodization plays a huge role in the build of this Funduro, with the stem, wheel thru-axles, seat clamp, stem cap, brake levers and disc calipers all from California-based Paul Components.
Another California company has a big part in this build, Petaluma-based White Industries. It's responsible for the headset, bottom bracket, crankset, chainring, and hubs.
Even the rims are US-made. The 30.2mm wide (internal width because that's all that matters) Blunt rims are put together in Grand Rapids, MI and are tied to White Industries hubs.
While its products are made overseas, the remaining spec has a California flavor as well, with WTB saddle and tires (Mill Valley), an X-Fusion McQueen fork and Manic dropper post (Santa Cruz).
Retrotec Funduro pricing and availability
How does the saying go, "Good things come to those who wait?" and that's the case if you want a Retrotec, with a lead time of around 3–4 months. Pricing starts at £1,458 / $1,900 /AU$2,389 for a TIG welded frame.
If you want a fillet brazed or lugged frame, be ready to part with £1,842 / $2,400 / AU$3,017. And of course, nearly anything you desire, from fancy paint to couplers, is fair game for an extra charge.
