Our review
Extensive range of tools, and a great size and shape, but it comes at a price

Pros:

Great waterproof storage; fits snugly on the water bottle holder; easy to access

Cons:

Removing the chain breaker tool is awkward

The Topeak PT30 feels like a workshop in a box, providing everything you could need for bike maintenance and repairs.

Its selection of tools includes a pad spacer for when your bike’s in transit, a knife and tubeless fix tools.

Despite housing an epic 30 tool functions, the PT30 is a neat size that fits comfortably in the hand.

However, the chain breaker tool needs to be removed for use, which was a frustration during testing.

On one side, the Topeak PT30 has a selection of Allen keys from 2-8mm, plus a clip-on 10mm key. Three sizes of Torx driver (T10, T15 and T25) are provided, as well as Phillips and flathead screwdrivers.

A knife and a tyre plug tool are on one edge, while the T10 doubles as a reamer for smoothing tyres before inserting the plug.

On the flip side, the detachable chain-breaker plate includes spoke keys, a chain hook, quick-link storage and a nifty quick-link removal tool.

The shiny Chrome finish on the tools makes the printing on them clear and easy to read.

The individual tools are easy to extract and use. The edges of each tool are crisp, however the rounded ends make them feel a bit loose and there is a degree of play before they engage with the bolt.

The right-angled 2mm Allen key is a good shape for adjusting Shimano derailleurs.

Having three sizes of Torx driver, as well as a full range of spoke keys, ensures this multi-tool will work across a range of bikes and cycling disciplines.

The individual tools are all a good length and were able to fit into a range of tight spots on the bike.

The shape of the multi-tool, in combination with the 8mm Allen key, ensured it worked well when removing pedals.

Having to detach the chain breaker before use was fiddly, especially when wearing cycling gloves. However, the tool itself worked well and there was decent leverage against the chain.

The quick-link storage felt insecure and I didn’t feel inclined to use it.

Extras such as the knife, tubeless repair tools and hydraulic disc brake pad spacer were a nice use of space, without making the multi-tool unwieldy.

Topeak Ninja Master Toolbox PT30 multi-tool bottom line

Vicky Balfour / Our Media

The Ninja Master+ is a comprehensive multi-tool for a range of on-the-go fixes.

If budget is not a consideration and you’re happy to overlook the detachable chain-breaker tool, it's a good option that'll provide everything you need.
