Testing gimbal-like stabilisation tech on flagship action cam

The headline feature of the new GoPro Hero 7 Black is undoubtedly the camera's HyperSmooth image stabilisation technology.

Claiming gimbal-like stabilisation without the need for a gimbal itself, HyperSmooth is a digital effect that uses a combination of cropping and image manipulation in order to reduce camera shake.

Upon securing a GoPro Hero 7 test unit, BikeRadar got straight to work testing this feature, which we thought was particularly relevant for us cyclists.

Although we only had limited time with the camera, experienced videographer Reuben Bakker-Dyos was able to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the stabilisation tech. You can find those, plus some wider thoughts on the camera itself, in the video above.
