At the beginning of June, Race Face put the call out on Instagram for riders to submit their "gnarliest scars and/or bloody calves and shins as a result of pedal strikes." With its latest release, the new nylon Ride Pedal, we now know why.

This entry-level, nylon composite pedal features a concave body with moulded traction pins, which Race Face promises will keep your feet attached without damaging your shoes or your shins should things go pear-shaped.

The new Ride pedal features a Cro-Mo steel axle with a sealed cartridge bearing/bushing set for easy servicing and plenty of longevity.

Tipping the scales at a claimed 320g per pedal, the platform measures 110x101mm, and with 18 moulded pins per side the height is 15mm to 18.4mm at the top of the pins.

For the brave souls who are happy to risk the skin on their shins and calves, the updated nylon Chester features 16 replaceable hex traction pins (eight per side) and ‘traction tread’ on the concave platform.

The 110mm x 101mm flat pedal spins around a Chromoly steel axle with fully serviceable sealed bearings and DU bushings. They’re a bit heavier than the Ride pedal, with the traction hardware claimed to weigh 360g.

Backed by a two-year warranty, the Chester pedals are available in nine colours, and will cost $49.99. International pricing is TBC.
