The Enduro World Series rolled the circus into Peebles, Scotland for the second round, and with it came some interesting new gear. The Tweed Valley is a mecca for mountain biking in Scotland and the trail options for the race were vast. The general opinion was that this was arguably the toughest EWS round yet physically and technically.

Some of the stages took riders to their limits on freshly cut trails that started the week wet but gradually dried out. Riders spent time juggling tyre options, trying to find the balance between finding grip in the mud and dragging slow-rolling tyres around 87km of race loop. And 26in wheels? Harder to find than hen’s teeth.

Here are a few of the best pieces of gear we spotted around the Peebles pits.

Polygon Collusus: Tracey Hannah opted for the new 140mm travel Polygon Collusus T8 rather than a 160mm travel version of the bike. The team riders opted for bigger volume Hutchinson tyres to deal with the conditions.

Schwalbe dual-chamber tyres: The Cube team riders were running with the Schwalbe dual-chamber tyre system and liked what they found. Team rider Scott Laughland reported being able to run 19psi in the front tyre and 21psi rear for phenomenal grip and reduced puncture risk.

Continental Baron Projekt: Continental caught the eye with its brand new Baron Projekt 2.4in enduro tyre, especially since its focus is performing well in the mud whilst retaining good rolling speed. It is available in all wheel sizes. The BMC team and Martin Maes of Atherton Racing were enjoying these.

Fox 36: Fox had many of its factory riders on the 2015 605B 36 fork. Available in June, there is a 29in version (and a redesigned 26in-wheel fork is coming as well). With a fully adjustable RC2 cartridge and an adjustable axle for 15/20mm forks, this looks like a return to form.

Hope Enduro tech rims: Hope is launching its new enduro rim (there is an XC one as well). The company took the features it like from the established market and combined them for improved performance. The enduro rim is made from 6061 aluminium, features a triple cavity and is welded and machine-finished so it should be pretty strong. It is also tubeless compatible and available in all wheel sizes.
