Pro bike: Tyler Farrar's Cervélo S5

The slick, shiny machine of MTN-Qhubeka’s star sprinter

The paint schemes of MTN-Qhubeka’s stable of Cervélo bikes are certainly the loudest in the Tour, taking inspiration from the team’s African background. Here’s a close-up look at the Cervélo S3 of American sprinter Tyler Farrar.

Farrar's aero road bike is dipped in metallic paint with sunrise yellow detailing including the 'Move Forward' mantra writ large on the top tube. The newest iteration of the Cervélo S5 has a shorter head tube than previous models, meaning fewer negative-angle stems seen in the pro ranks. Farrar has even added spacers, which is a pretty rare sight.

Farrar’s 3T Ergonova Pro bars come complete with Di2 sprint shifters that are accessible from the drops. The levers themselves have quite an extreme upwards positioning.

MTN-Qhubeka has made good use of its Enve sponsorship, speccing the US brand’s newest SES 4.5 wheelset, giving Farrar a 48mm depth on the front and 56mm at the rear.

The Rotor cranks shown here incorporate the Spanish company’s dual-sided power meter on Farrar’s ‘A’ bike, but still feature the slightly out-there 53/38t chainring combination on a 110BCD crankset. It’s Rotor No-Q circular chainrings for the team, rather than the brand’s ovalised options.

The KMC chain is yellow to match the frame detailing. Farrar uses red Speedplay pedals, Selle Italia SLR Team saddle and 3T’s Integra LTD stem, which has a built in Garmin mount.
