Whatever your choice of cycling discipline – whether that’s getting air at your local mountain bike trail centre or heading out into the country for a 100-mile sportive – you’ll need a vehicle with space to get you and all your gear to the start line. As every cyclist knows, boot space – and lots of it – is crucial. Spare wheels, kit bags, hydration packs, helmets, a track pump and piles of food are vital to ensure a long, hard day in the saddle starts and ends comfortably.

Riders need to be able to stretch out, too and because the all-new Mazda3 has capacious and cavernous amounts of boot space, the choice then becomes: do you pick its Hatchback version, which has 364 litres of cargo room or go with the Fastback version with its 419 litres?

Tough decision, particularly as both versions have enough depth inside for your extensive luggage needs. They come with a great look and supreme engine performance and also ensure everyday practicality comes as standard in the sporty four-door Fastback model or the five-door Hatchback version.

In either model, though, you’ll find the stylish cabin featuring Bluetooth® connectivity and a 7” colour touch-screen display –with generous amounts of headroom that allows plenty of space to accommodate taller riders. But even more important – for cyclists at least – is a solid amount of legroom. The driver and front seat space stretches to more than a metre in the all-new Madza3, which is perfect as post-ride recovery starts the moment you slide into its comfortable seating.

If you’re concerned about adding a trailer to your journey, the all-new Mazda3 is a good puller, too. Even the lighter 100PS SKYACTIV-G petrol engine can tow 950kg easily and the superbly powerful SKYACTIV-D diesel engine can haul a massive 1,500kg.

With its exceptional styling, zippy performance and great fuel efficiency, the family-friendly all-new Mazda3 is an excellent vehicle for a life lived in the city but enjoyed outdoors, whether you’re riding or simply getting away from it all. It will get the weekend's fun underway the moment you fire the engine.

Petrol versions of the 36 strong all-new Mazda3 model range are available on the road (OTR) from £16,695 for the all-new Mazda3 100ps SE and £16,995 for the all-new Mazda3 Fastback 120ps SE. Both models deliver up to 55.4mpg combined fuel economy and emissions from 119g/km*.
