Scott Trail mountain bike shoe review£70.00

Clipless trail shoe worthy of attention

BikeRadar score4/5

Scott's Trail model (available with lace-up or Boa dial closure systems) is a clipless mountain bike shoe worthy of your attention. It uses a medium stiffness glass-fibre-reinforced mid-sole and low profile lugged outsole to provide off-road traction, and we didn’t find them too bad at keeping us right side up during some slippery winter portages.

The upper is synthetic leather and mesh, meaning it dries out reasonably fast thanks to the fast drying nature of synthetics. A reinforced toe box keeps toes safe in emergency foot down situations. Pedal engagement was good with the low proile cleat pocket allowing unfettered access. The cleat pocket covers screw on, so if you decide to run flats you can refit them.

Fit is neutral, suiting medium width feet well. The Scott Trail is suitable for most dry conditions, though we’d keep them for warmer days as in cold weather they’re not as warm or weatherproof as some of the other mountain bike shoes now available.
