Comfortable, stable, stiff and supportive shoes

New for 2011, the R077 is yet another competent, supportive, comfortable and top-performing shoe from the Japanese component giants. Eschewing fancy ratcheted closure systems for three long Velcro straps, the shoe is easy to conform to your foot shape, with the middle strap offset to avoid any tightening pressure points.

The uppers are synthetic leather combined with mesh panels, which along with vent holes in the synthetic leather and a large vent under the toebox mean there is plenty of air getting into the shoe. There’s plenty of padding in the snug-fitting heel, and practically no flex in the glass fibre-reinforced polyamide sole.

Underneath there are cleat drillings for Shimano’s two-bolt SPD system and three-bolt SPD-SL and Look-style systems. The alignment markings are really useful too. As with all Shimano shoes, the tester who normally fits a size 44 needed a size 45, so try before you buy. They weigh 310g each in a size 45.
