Tested: When do plus tyres make sense?

Can plus be better, and if so when and why?

Although increasingly common, 27.5+ tyres are still not fully understood in the world of mountain biking. Currently it’s possible to purchase many different disciplines of mountain bikes with plus size tyres and yet nobody really seems to have clearly answered an important question on the topic: where do they work best?

Here at BikeRadar we thought we’d try a different approach, and so we turned to Tom Marvin, technical editor at our sister mag What Mountain Bike, who has conducted his own research into the subject.

In this video, Tom took four very different 650b+ bikes and set himself the mission of finding out where the new standard excels, and where it doesn't.

With more than 10 years of experience riding mountain bikes, Oli knows the good from the bad when it comes to gear. He's a total bike nerd and loves few things more than fettling with spangly riding bits. Also, he seems to have a talent for crashing hard but emerging unscathed.
