Goodyear has released the single largest expansion of its road bike tyre range with four new models.

The four new tyres are called: Eagle F1 R; Eagle F1 SuperSport R; Eagle; and Vector Sport.

Goodyear says the range is aimed at road racing, time trialling and endurance riding with options for “elite racers and enthusiasts alike”.

Each tyre in the range is available in either clincher or tubeless options.

Along with either black or transparent sidewalls and different widths, this means there are 47 variations across the range.

Goodyear is one of the world’s largest tyre manufacturers. It entered the road bike tyre market in 2018 with its ‘High-Performance’ and ‘Ultra High-Performance’ categories.

The brand continues this categorisation with its latest tyres, but it has released updated compounds that use the ‘High-Performance’ and ‘Ultra-high Performance’ names.

The Eagle F1 R and Eagle F1 SuperSport R sit in the Ultra-High Performance bracket. The Eagle and Vector Sport belong to the High-Performance category.

The new models will complement Goodyear’s existing road tyres, including the Vector 4Seasons tyre.

Compound advancements for faster tyres

The Goodyear Eagle F1 R tyre uses Goodyear's new Dynamic: UHP compound. - Goodyear

The four tyres, manufactured at Goodyear’s recently expanded factory in Taiwan, use the brand's new Dynamic: High-Performance and Dynamic: Ultra-High Performance compounds.

The new Dynamic: UHP compound is found on the Eagle F1 R and Eagle F1 SuperSport R tyres.

Goodyear says data from third-party testing shows the tubeless Eagle F1 R and Eagle F1 SuperSport R tyre models outperform the first-generation Eagle F1 tyre.

Compared to the previous Eagle F1, Goodyear claims the new Eagle SuperSport R's rolling resistance has decreased by up to 35 per cent and grip has increased by up to 19 per cent, depending on tyre pressure.

The Dynamic: HP compound, used on the Eagle and Vector Sport tyres, is said to improve puncture resistance while “maintaining dependable grip and low rolling resistance”.

Updated Tubeless Complete

The new Tubeless Complete features a Dual Angle Bead said to make installing the tyre easier. - Goodyear

When Goodyear expanded its Ultra High-Performance range in 2020, it introduced its Tubeless Complete technology. This used a multi-compound material liner on the inside of the tyre to increase air retention and puncture protection.

Goodyear has updated this technology with its latest tubeless road tyres. The new Tubeless Complete features a Dual Angle Bead design. This is said to make installing the tyres easier, reduce weight and help retain air.

This technology appears on the Eagle F1 R and F1 SuperSport R, but Goodyear refers to the tubeless Eagle and Vector Sport simply as “tubeless ready”.

New casing

The short-ply casing is said to create more supple and lighter tyres. - Goodyear

The Eagle F1 R and Eagle F1 SuperSport R tyres feature Goodyear’s new short-ply casing. This casing uses 150 TPI fabric in the Eagle F1 SuperSport R and 120 TPI fabric in the Eagle F1 R.

Goodyear says the short-ply casing uses a single-layer tread, whereas its 1-ply casing uses a triple-layer tread. It is said to result in a more supple and lighter tyre.

Goodyear says the 700x25mm Eagle F1 SuperSport R is one of the lightest tubeless road tyres available, weighing a claimed 235g.

The 700x25mm Eagle F1 R tubeless tyre weighs a claimed 280g and is said to offer an 8 per cent reduction in weight compared to the previous Eagle F1 tubeless tyre.

The Eagle and Vector Sport use a 60 TPI casing.

R:Shield puncture protection

The Vector Sport tyre has two layers of R:Shield protection. - Goodyear

Apart from the Eagle SuperSport F1, all the tyres feature Goodyear’s R:Shield.

Goodyear describes this technology as a tightly-woven breaker belt. Sitting below the rubber compound, this is said to provide puncture protection with low rolling resistance and a supple on-road feel.

Goodyear road bike tyre range

Goodyear says its new tyres are available now and pricing ranges from £45 / $55 / €50 to £65 / $80 / €70.
