Free kids bike maintenance at Halfords

Instruction on the basics for 8-10 year olds

Free kids' bike maintenance at Halfords

If you’re looking for useful entertainment for the kids over Easter, Halfords are giving kids the opportunity to learn the basics of bike maintenance free of charge.

The workshops will be available at 423 Halfords stores and will start at 10am every Wednesday over the Easter period.

The hour long workshops aim to teach 8-10 year-olds basic bike checks. This will include a tutorial and demonstration on how to fix punctures, re-attaching a bike chain and how to adjust both handle bars and the saddle height. There will also be a drawing competition with a chance to win a bike worth up £250.

Halfords CSR Manager, Emma Thomas said: “Last year’s Olympic and Tour De France successes introduced a whole new generation to cycling. We are keen to build on that. The bike workshops are aimed to be fun and interactive. They provide a great starting point for kids and even parents to go back home and try out what they have learned together on their own bikes.”

If you’re looking for other options for free maintenance classes then check with your local council who may run such courses or may be able to put you in touch with local charitable or voluntary organisations who do.

One long-established organisation based in the south-west is Lifecycle, who run regular free maintenance courses and family cycling events.
