This Urbanmover UM33X pedal-assist machine is the first of UK chain Halfords' new electric bike offerings to reach BikeRadar HQ.

While the front end looks like a mountain bike, the rear has been 'stretched' to make room for a Panasonic lithium-ion battery and electric motor.

Once you turn on the motor using the handlebar-mounted switch, the power-assist kicks in as soon as you turn the pedals. It's limited (as per UK law) to 15mph.

Other features on the £849.99 machine include a suspension fork, integrated kickstand, mudguards, puncture resistant tyres with self-seal innertubes and a rear wheel lock. The battery is claimed to last 20 miles on one charge.

Cycling Plus magazine will have a full review on the Urbanmover in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled.
