Last year's Interbike trade show was the first time we caught sight of Mad Fiber's new carbon clincher wheel. But this week saw UK distributor C3 Products drop by to give us a closer look.

Sitting alongside the only other wheels in its range, the new clinchers are – pardon the pun – a carbon copy of those tubs but with the convenience of clincher tyre compatibility.

The major change is that, while the clincher hook and outer rim wall are aluminum, the braking surfaces are still carbon fibre. Therefore, the two wheels look almost identical when the tyres are on. The full story behind the wheel's technology can be found here, so for now we'll give you its vital statistics.

Rim depths are 60mm on the front and 66mm at the rear, with total set weight at a very respectable 1,318g. Despite this low figure, the clinchers have no rider weight limit and have a four-year warranty with crash replacement policy. Twelve bladed carbon spokes are on the front, with 18 behind.

Interchangeable alloy freehub bodies make for easy compatibility with Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo. The clinchers are available now from C3 Products for £2,500 (US$2,899).
