There are 440 miles between London and Edinburgh. Reckon you can do it in less than 48 hours? That’s the gauntlet thrown down to you by the Rat Race Road Trip.

And BikeRadar readers are especially privileged: they can save money on the cost of entry to this extra special circle of pain.

At 4am on Saturday 9 August, intrepid – not to say masochistic – riders will pull out of central London in the Rat Race expert class, hoping to reach the Scottish capital by 11.59pm the next day.

Between them lay some of the UK’s best cycling roads on a fully waymarked route. The sting in the tail is a gruelling climb over the Lammermuir Hills in the Scottish Borders before the descent to Murrayfield in Edinburgh.

Entrants can do the event solo or in pairs in the expert category. The route is fully waymarked and there are pitstops – but those in the expert category won’t be spending much time in them if they hope to complete the challenge in 48 hours.

BikeRadar has teamed up with Rat Race to offer entrants 15 percent off the entry price for entry to both the expert class and the four day challenger class.

To secure money off, visit the event website and enter the voucher code BRRT15. The discount code is valid right up until the event, but as soon as you’ve entered, you’d better get training for the ride of your life!
