Quality eyewear – but the D’Luxs are up against some tough competition at this price

Catlike are best known for their ‘more hole than helmet’ road lids, but they also make other gear including shoes and glasses. The D-Lux is the new top-end model of their eyewear range, and it’s a top performer.

A variety of lenses are available, with prices starting at £99.99 for the basic package with clear and smoked lenses. Our test pair was supplied with three lenses –  a photochromatic one, a mirrored “Salmon Flash” silver one and a polarized red one for high-glare situations.

We were particularly impressed by the photochromatic lens, which adapts quickly to different light situations, making it ideal for those changeable autumn/spring days or mountain bike rides where you dart in and out of the woods. All have anti-scratch and water-repellent coatings.

The D’Lux’s rubber nose piece can be moulded to fit different shape conks, and the one-piece lenses are available in two different sizes, so it’s easy to get a comfortable fit. The flexible rubber arm tips mean they stay in place and don’t put too much pressure on the sides of your head.

The glasses sit further off the face than many of their rivals, which helps combat fogging. In fact, these glasses are among the best we’ve used in that respect. Even on a hot July off-road ride with some slow-speed but high-exertion climbs, there was just a hint of fog at the top of the lens.

On road – which is what these glasses are really designed for – they work just as well, with a good field of vision that isn’t obstructed by the frame, even when in the drops. The arms are quite long and angle up at the end though, so they can interfere with helmet straps/shells.

That’s our only major niggle though, and overall, this is a cracking pair of glasses. The D’Luxs come with a large hard case with room for two spare lenses, plus a soft bag. The frame is available in 12 colours in case the green tested here clashes with your riding kit.
