With their ergonomically shaped insoles, Bontrager’s Race shoe promises customised fit and improved biomechanics.
But the uncomfortable join where the interchangeable arch support of the E-sole system meets the main insole sits under the ball of the foot of some riders. Also, the Velcro straps are too short to grip firmly and the ratchet is bulky yet awkward to release.
However, forgiving quirks in the fit becomes far easier once you factor in the light and impressively rigid carbon-reinforced sole and positively breezy feel created by cleverly placed mesh panels and sole vents.
