A top comfort contender with customised footbed options

This shoe is noticeably and comfortably wide, but rides like a much stiffer model and is faster and meaner than you’d expect from its casually roomy looks.

Investigation of the inside reveals an eSoles footbed that’s not only extremely supportive but can be customised with different arch supports – good news for riders with dodgy knees who usually have to swap their personalised footbeds between shoes.

It makes for a responsive, almost springy feel – even on a narrow-footed tester. It’s also comfortably secure on hike-a-bike terrain, where the grip proves superb as well.

The synthetic leather outer can get warm, but we reckon it will hold up well through wintry riding conditions, shrugging off mud and muck with ease.

All in all, this is a durable all-rounder that will make a good first mountain bike shoe. If you usually have trouble finding shoes to fit, or find yourself hobbling in pain after a few hours, the extra width will be a real bonus.
