Our review
Tough, light and impressively detailed shoes that live up to the price tag

The M5 feels flimsy at first but we enjoyed its super-light performance the more we rode. While the sole isn’t carbon fibre like many XC price rivals, it’s extremely stiff and puts all your power straight through the pedal and on to the trail.

The red tread lugs provide trustworthy traction on foot and there are toe stud threads for extra grip.

The lightweight, proofed leather and fabric upper manages a neat trick of barely feeling like it’s there while still managing to keep your foot exactly where it needs to be. The twin Velcro and single ratchet straps sort out tensioning without hot spots.

It’s more weatherproof than most shoes and dries quickly when it does get wet, which is great for back-to-back riding days. Fizik's quality detailing justifies the high price too.
