Good winter boots that are worth the money if you want to go riding during the worst weather

These Celius GTX boots from Northwave are designed to take the sting out of foul weather winter rides. Fastening them tightly is easy thanks to the Superlace closure system, which can be operated even when wearing thick gloves. The double storm flaps are held in place with Velcro and do a great job against the elements as well as keeping you nice and toasty, partly because of the Gore-Tex upper membrane.

Generous cutouts and lengthy slots mean cleat placement is easy to get right. There’s also plenty of room around the cleats, allowing them to clear mud well. The carbon reinforced soles give the GTXs a solid feel and make for efficient pedalling. There’s no need to worry that you’re compromising on power just to keep your feet snug.

When it comes to comfort, Northwave have created a boot that can be worn all day with no niggles. And the rapid clearing treads mean off-the-bike action isn’t a problem, although there is a little heel slip due to the stiff sole. All in all, the Celsius boots mean you can head out in the grottiest of weather conditions, make the most of your time on the bike and still return home with warm, dry feet. What more could you want?
