Sliding your feet into a pair of these bike shoes isn’t quite like putting on slippers, but the roomy toe box does give your tootsies lots of space to spread out in.
But on the bike, all that freedom of movement makes for a looser feel. Even allowing for the fact that you can tighten the Velcro strap in addition to the laces, you feel it on the climbs.
But the general all-round comfort is the plus factor in this balancing equation that makes up for everything. If you’re after a cross-country power-fest then you won’t be headed in this footwear direction.
The Vibram soles take uneven and loose ground easily in their stride, providing good grip and a flexible walking feel with a toe bumper that’s not super-deep but is perfectly adequate for protection from random rocks.
We like the off-bike comfort of the Mission – it makes a good recreational or first cycling-specific shoe, and its low key looks make it an excellent urban commute option for times when you don’t want to be hobbling at your destination.
