Look’s new Vitesse 895 track bike promises Olympic aerodynamics without a sky-high price tag

The new Look Vitesse 895 is a cheaper version of the T20 ridden by France's track sprinters at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

The new Look Vitesse 895 is a more accessible addition to the French Olympic manufacturer’s range of aero track bikes. Designed and made in France, prices start at £3,790 for the carbon sprint frameset.

While that's undoubtedly a lot of money, the Vitesse 895 costs half as much as the Look T20, which Look designed specifically for the French national track cycling team.

The Vitesse borrows the fork from the T20, which Team France rode on the track at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The T20 is said to be lighter, stiffer and more aerodynamically efficient than its predecessor, the R96, resulting in a saving of nearly 30 watts at “full speed” – or a bike length in a 200m sprint, according to Look.

The Vitesse’s bottom bracket has a claimed stiffness of 205N/mm to optimise power-transfer efficiency.

The bike features an integrated seat mast, which is topped with a reversible saddle cradle. This allows the fit to be customised by altering seatpost setback.

The top tube dips slightly before the cockpit, while the sides sweep inwards creating a triangular profile to slice through the air. The seat tube curves around the rear wheel in an attempt to further minimise drag.

The carbon stem comes in 18 sizes, ranging from 55mm to 140mm, so you can adjust to suit your preferred position and riding style.

While Look makes its own cranks, the brand says the frameset is compatible with any track crank. Look recommends pairing the Vitesse with Corima WS1 carbon race wheels available in 32, 47 and 58mm depths.

You can order the 895 Vitesse via Look dealers, with prices starting at £3,790 / €3,790 / $4,500.

It is available as a frameset only in extra small, small, medium or large and two colour schemes. In a nod to the “heritage of track racing”, Look says the Cote d’Azur colour is inspired by the blue boards on the inside of a velodrome.

The second option, Pro Team Black Mat, mimics the stealthy aesthetics of the French manufacturer’s Olympic bikes.
